We have secured the number one position in our yearly rankings of the top 20 Montreal Canadiens prospects, as determined by Habs supporters.
Exceptionally talented center Michael Hage, who was among the top three last year, now emerges as the leading prospect within the organization.
Top Montreal Canadiens Prospects
Note: To be eligible for the project, candidates must be 23 years old or younger and currently competing outside the NHL. This means that while players like Lane Hutson, Juraj Slafkovsky, and Ivan Demidov are young enough to meet the age criteria, they have already made their mark as NHL players and are no longer classified as prospects.

Mike Hage
1. Center, Right-handed shooter, 19 years old, University of Michigan (NCAA), 6’1″ tall, weighing 198 pounds. Selected 21st overall in the 2024 draft.
Some may critique the giveaways that frequently happen in the offensive zone, but Hage is certainly not a player known for turning over the puck. He handles the puck more than many others, which naturally results in a higher turnover rate. One could even argue that players who frequently lose possession are often among the top performers in various leagues. Currently, Nathan MacKinnon tops the NHL in turnovers, and by a significant margin as well. It’s worth noting that MacKinnon and Hage possess very comparable skill sets.
Anticipating the Future Developments of Fowler
Given that Hage is among the top-performing athletes in the NCAA, there’s a strong possibility that the Montreal Canadiens will look to promote him after the 2025-26 season, potentially allowing him to play a few games in Montreal to experience the competitive environment of professional hockey.
I wouldn’t go as far as to say he’s ready for the NHL right now, which suggests we might see him in the AHL or possibly returning to the NCAA for a third year. Nevertheless, it’s clear that Hage offers Montreal the best opportunity to have a prospect who could make a notable impact as soon as next season.
He is undoubtedly the top internal candidate to secure a long-term fix for the second line, which remains one of the most critical challenges in assessing the Canadiens’ roster setup.
In simple terms, Michael Hage possesses all the qualities needed to potentially become a standout player in the NHL and an essential part of the Montreal Canadiens.
