Maxx Crosby Trade Falls Through
The Baltimore Ravens have officially backed out of a trade that would have sent star pass rusher Maxx Crosby from the Las Vegas Raiders to their team. The proposed deal was set to include two first-round draft picks in exchange for Crosby, but health concerns regarding his knee ultimately led to the cancellation of the trade.
Crosby had undergone surgery in January to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee, which raised red flags during the physical examination conducted by the Ravens. Despite his impressive performance last season, where he recorded 10 sacks and a career-high 28 tackles for loss, the Ravens deemed the risk of acquiring him was not worthwhile after evaluating his recovery progress.
According to Crosby’s agent, he is recovering well and is reportedly ahead of schedule in his rehabilitation. CJ LaBoy, Crosby’s surgeon, confirmed that the player continues to be on track in his recovery. However, the Ravens’ decision to withdraw from the trade indicates lingering concerns about his knee’s condition.
The Ravens are currently in a win-now mode, especially with a first-year coach and quarterback Lamar Jackson at the helm. They had hoped to bolster their defense with Crosby, who has reached double-digit sacks four times in his seven seasons. The Ravens’ defense ranked 28th in the league in sacks last season, highlighting their need for a strong pass rusher.
On the other hand, the Raiders are in a unique position as they own the No. 1 pick in the upcoming draft and are expected to select Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza. Additionally, they recently signed Tyler Linderbaum to a three-year, $81 million contract, further emphasizing their commitment to strengthening their roster.
With the trade falling through, the Raiders may now seek another trade partner for Crosby. The uncertainty surrounding the Ravens’ decision adds another layer of complexity to the situation, as the exact reasons behind their choice to back out remain unconfirmed.
As both teams navigate this unexpected turn of events, the timeline for Crosby’s full recovery is also unclear. The Ravens will need to find a new pass-rusher to fill the void left by the canceled trade, while the Raiders must reassess their strategy moving forward.
