Magellan Aerospace Limited, one of the beneficiaries, will receive $8 million to establish a state-of-the-art machining center in Winnipeg. This facility will not only boost the local economy but also enhance Canada’s aerospace capabilities—an area crucial for modern defense strategies.
StandardAero is also expanding its operations with an additional $8 million from federal funds. This expansion focuses on enhancing aerospace maintenance capabilities, which are vital for ensuring that military aircraft remain operational and effective.
Another recipient, Win-Shield Devices, will use a $3.5 million federal investment to build a manufacturing plant for personal protective equipment. This initiative addresses immediate needs while simultaneously creating more than 150 new jobs and preserving over 100 existing positions.
The context matters because the Canadian defense industry contributes nearly $10 billion to the country’s GDP. With the Royal Canadian Air Force’s operational headquarters located in Winnipeg, this city plays a pivotal role in national defense.
