David Perron Traded to Detroit Red Wings

David Perron has been acquired by the Detroit Red Wings from the Ottawa Senators in a trade that involves a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft. The deal comes as the Red Wings are currently positioned in third place in the Atlantic Division.

Perron, who is 37 years old, has recorded 25 points this season, with 10 goals and 15 assists in 49 games played. His performance has been notable, although he is currently on injured reserve and last played on January 20, 2026.

During his previous stint with the Red Wings from 2022 to 2024, Perron scored 103 points in 158 games, showcasing his offensive capabilities. Over his entire career, he has accumulated a total of 809 points, including 329 goals and 480 assists across 1,223 regular-season games.

Perron has a wealth of playoff experience, having participated in 110 postseason games, and was instrumental in helping the St. Louis Blues win the Stanley Cup in 2019. He was originally selected by the Blues in the first round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

In the last year and a half with the Senators, Perron posted 19 goals and 22 assists in 92 games, demonstrating his consistent scoring ability. He signed a two-year deal worth $4 million annually with Ottawa before the trade.

For the Red Wings, the acquisition of Perron could bolster their offensive lineup as they aim for a strong finish to the season. The conditional nature of the draft pick adds an element of strategy, as Perron must play at least one game for the Senators for the Red Wings to secure the fourth-round pick, and 50% of the first-round games for a potential third-round pick.

As the season progresses, observers will be keen to see how Perron’s integration into the Red Wings unfolds, particularly given his previous success with the team. Details remain unconfirmed regarding the exact terms of the trade and the conditions attached to the draft pick.
