Surrey Weather Update: Snow and Cold Temperatures Expected

Weather Forecast and Warnings

As of March 9, 2026, Surrey and the surrounding areas in Metro Vancouver are preparing for adverse weather conditions. Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement indicating the possibility of snow accumulation in the region.

According to the forecast, residents can expect between 2 to 5 centimetres of snow. This snowfall is anticipated due to a cool and unstable airmass that will bring freezing levels close to sea level before Tuesday morning.

Expected Conditions

Flurries or showers are likely to occur on both Tuesday and Wednesday, driven by low freezing levels combined with an approaching trough of low pressure. Daytime highs are projected to reach only 4°C on Tuesday, while overnight temperatures could dip to 1°C on Monday and 0°C later in the week.

The North Shore mountains and Surrey Delta Highland are expected to experience the most significant snow accumulation, which may impact travel and daily activities.

Impact on Residents

In response to the frigid temperatures, extreme weather shelters in Delta will be open on March 9 and 10, providing necessary accommodations for those in need. These shelters will offer 9 to 10 inclusive spaces for women to ensure safety and support during the cold snap.

Additionally, power outages are affecting over 1,300 customers in Northern B.C. due to strong winds, with B.C. Hydro reporting that some areas may remain without power overnight as crews work to restore service.

Travel Advisories

Travelers are advised to check road conditions before embarking on journeys, as icy conditions may pose hazards. The Coquihalla highway, which was previously closed due to a jack-knifed semi truck, has since reopened, but caution is still urged as transport trucks remain backed up on the highway leaving Kamloops.

As the situation develops, residents are encouraged to stay informed about the latest updates regarding Surrey weather and any potential impacts on their daily routines.
