Nathan Gaucher has been recalled by the Anaheim Ducks from the San Diego Gulls, marking a significant step in his professional hockey career. This decision comes after an impressive season in the American Hockey League (AHL), where Gaucher scored 12 goals and provided 14 assists for a total of 26 points in 57 games.
This season has seen Gaucher set career highs in both points and goals, including a notable achievement of scoring his first career hat trick on March 22 against the Calgary Wranglers. Over his AHL career, which spans 185 games, he has accumulated 30 goals and 40 assists, totaling 70 points.
Gaucher, who is just 22 years old, was selected by the Ducks in the first round of the 2022 NHL Draft, being the 22nd overall pick. His journey in hockey has been marked by success, including helping the Quebec Remparts win the Memorial Cup and QMJHL championships in the 2022-23 season. Additionally, he was recognized as the QMJHL’s Best Defensive Forward during that same season.
In his junior career, Gaucher earned 80 goals and 78 assists for 158 points in 199 games in the QMJHL. His contributions have also extended to the international stage, where he played a key role in helping Canada secure back-to-back gold medals at the World Junior Championships in 2022 and 2023.
His performance this season has not gone unnoticed, with Derek Lee noting, “Gaucher has 26 points in 57 contests for the Gulls this season.” The Ducks’ decision to recall him reflects their confidence in his abilities to contribute at the NHL level.
Lee also highlighted Gaucher’s playing style, stating, “He’s an aggressive forechecker who isn’t afraid of physicality, with the vision to find his teammates relatively effortlessly.” This aggressive playstyle may prove beneficial as the Ducks look to enhance their roster.
As the Ducks prepare for upcoming games, Gaucher’s return to the NHL could provide a much-needed boost. His brother, Jacob Gaucher, is also in the professional hockey scene, being a member of the Philadelphia Flyers organization, adding a familial connection to the sport.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding how much playing time Gaucher will receive or how he will fit into the Ducks’ lineup. However, his recent performance in the AHL certainly positions him as a promising addition to the team.
