Israel: What is the Current Situation of ‘s Military Actions in Lebanon?

In a significant escalation of hostilities, Israel has intensified its military actions in Lebanon as of March 25, 2026, aiming to inflict damage comparable to its operations in the Gaza Strip. This development comes amid ongoing conflicts that have already resulted in substantial casualties and displacement.

Reports indicate that Israel plans to control a 30-kilometre area inside southern Lebanon, with military strategies mirroring those used in Gaza. The conflict has already led to the deaths of ten Israeli soldiers since its escalation, highlighting the severe toll on both sides.

Since the fighting began, more than 1.2 million people have been displaced in Lebanon. In Gaza, the situation is dire, with over 72,000 Palestinians reported killed since October 7, 2023. Additionally, Israel has killed more than 800 Palestinians in breaches of the ceasefire since October 2025.

International reactions have been swift. Spain’s parliament has approved a total arms embargo on Israel, reflecting growing concerns over the humanitarian impact of the conflict. Pedro Sanchez, the Spanish Prime Minister, remarked, “This is not the same scenario as the illegal war in Iraq. We are facing something far worse.”

Mark Carney, former Governor of the Bank of England, described the situation as an “illegal invasion” of Lebanon, emphasizing the gravity of Israel’s military actions. Meanwhile, Jean-Noel Barrot, France’s Minister for Digital Transition, urged Israel to refrain from its planned occupation of southern Lebanon.

Israel Katz, a member of the Israeli government, defended the military strategy, stating, “Israel’s military was following the model of Rafah and Beit Hanoon in Lebanon.” This statement underscores the intent to apply similar tactics as seen in previous conflicts.

The ongoing violence has drawn attention from genocide scholars, who formally declared in September that Israel’s war on Gaza meets the legal definition of genocide, further complicating the international response.

As the situation develops, the international community continues to monitor the conflict closely, with calls for restraint and humanitarian considerations becoming increasingly urgent.

Details remain unconfirmed as the situation continues to evolve.
