ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026: India Claims Title on Home Soil

India Wins ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026

India has triumphed in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, defeating New Zealand in the final match held in India. This victory marks a historic achievement as India became the first team to win the T20 World Cup on home soil and the first to secure consecutive titles.

For their efforts, India received a prize money of USD 2,639,423, while New Zealand, the runners-up, took home USD 1,422,692. Other teams also received significant amounts, with South Africa earning USD 1,005,577, England USD 974,423, and West Indies USD 538,269. The total prize money pool for the tournament was USD 11.25 million.

However, the tournament was not without its controversies. The International Cricket Council (ICC) faced backlash regarding travel arrangements for teams. West Indies players were stranded in India for over a week after their exit from the tournament, leading to frustrations expressed on social media.

Darren Sammy, a former West Indies captain, voiced his discontent, stating, “I just wanna go home.” Similarly, South African player David Miller remarked on the disparity in travel arrangements, highlighting that while West Indies had been waiting for a charter flight for seven days, South Africa was also facing delays.

Quinton De Kock, another South African cricketer, questioned the situation, saying, “England are leaving before us somehow?! Strange how different teams have more pull than others.” This sentiment reflects the frustrations shared among players regarding the travel logistics.

The ICC responded to the claims of bias, stating, “We will not move people until we are satisfied that the travel solution in place is safe, and that commitment will not change.” They emphasized that safety and welfare were their top priorities in these arrangements.

Despite the travel issues, the tournament showcased thrilling cricket and significant achievements, with India solidifying its status in T20 cricket history. Observers are keen to see how the ICC addresses the travel concerns raised by teams in future tournaments.
