Seismic Upgrades for Schools in British Columbia

The province has allocated 4.6 million dollars over three years for seismic construction or renovation of schools, a significant investment aimed at enhancing safety in educational institutions. This funding comes as three francophone schools, including École Océane, and numerous others under English school boards await necessary financial support for seismic upgrades.
In total, British Columbia has identified 598 projects that are classified based on their state of progress regarding seismic upgrades. The methods of evaluation for seismic risk in schools have evolved, becoming more complex and precise since the changes to the building code in 2015.

In addition to the seismic upgrades, recent scientific advancements have shed light on the structure of DNA. Lionel Guittat remarked, “These planes can stack up and create different DNA molecule configurations, with four strands, two strands, or even a single strand,” referring to the discovery of G-quadruplexes (G4) in archaea.
G-quadruplexes were identified in Haloferax volcanii for the first time by scientists at Université Sorbonne Paris Nord, marking a significant milestone in genetic research. The identification algorithm used in this study analyzed the base sequence of Haloferax volcanii and identified more than 5,000 potential G4 sites.
The implications of these findings extend beyond theoretical research, as they may influence future studies on genetic structures and their stability.
