Disneyland resort: What Are the New Rules at ?

Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California, has recently enacted strict new rules to boost ride safety and enhance the guest experience. This decision comes amid a noticeable increase in ride disruptions, with guest behavior now accounting for 13% of these incidents in fiscal year 2025.

As the summer season approaches, Disneyland aims to provide a smoother experience for visitors. In recent years, the park has faced challenges with ride reliability. The historical average for shutdowns due to guest actions was around 10%. The uptick in disruptions prompted the resort to take decisive action.

Among the new regulations is a phone policy dubbed “Stow it, Don’t Show it.” This rule mandates that guests must secure their phones before boarding certain rides. Natalie Katzka, a spokesperson for Disneyland, emphasized, “Phones must be fully secured in a bag or pocket before boarding.” This policy aims to minimize distractions and ensure safety during high-motion rides.

Additionally, Disneyland has implemented stricter bag checks. Guests can expect deeper inspections for restricted items. Notably, handheld filming is now prohibited on high-motion attractions. Moreover, selfie sticks and other loose items that could interfere with ride safety are banned.

This shift in policy reflects Disneyland’s commitment to maintaining a safe environment for all guests. The introduction of facial recognition technology at entry gates also plays a role in enhancing security measures. This technology facilitates re-entry and helps prevent fraud.

That context matters because it aligns with Disneyland’s broader mission of creating magical experiences. For instance, Disney’s Wishes Assemble event recently granted nearly 40 wishes to children battling critical illnesses at the park. Leslie Motter from Make-A-Wish noted, “The smiles on those children’s faces when their wish comes to life — there’s nothing like it.” Such initiatives demonstrate how Disneyland prioritizes joy and safety.

In addition to these changes, the resort continues to offer amenities like those found at Animal Kingdom Lodge. With features such as early park entry and Lightning Lane passes, guests can enjoy unique experiences while ensuring their safety.

The ongoing adjustments at Disneyland highlight its proactive approach to guest satisfaction and safety. As rising disruptions challenge traditional operations, these new rules may help restore confidence among visitors eager for a magical experience.
