Cooper Flagg Returns to Action
Cooper Flagg has been cleared to return to the court after missing eight games due to a left midfoot sprain. The rookie star from Maine is set to play in a road game against the Orlando Magic, marking a significant comeback for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.
Flagg injured his foot during a loss to the Phoenix Suns on February 10, which sidelined him for several weeks. Prior to his injury, he was averaging an impressive 20.4 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game over the course of 49 games this season.
In his return game against the Orlando Magic, Flagg played 26 minutes, scoring 18 points, grabbing 5 rebounds, and dishing out 6 assists. Despite being on a minutes restriction of 20 to 25 minutes, he made a notable impact on the game.
Jason Kidd, head coach of the Dallas Mavericks, emphasized the importance of being cautious with Flagg’s return, stating, “The Mavs wanted to be extra careful.” Flagg himself expressed his excitement about playing in Orlando, noting, “I rooted for the Celtics while growing up in Newport, Maine,” which adds a personal touch to his return.
As the Mavericks currently sit 12th in the Western Conference standings, Flagg’s performance is crucial for the team’s aspirations. Observers expect Dallas to provide Flagg with ample opportunities to showcase his skills, especially as he plays in front of a home crowd.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding how many minutes Flagg will play in the upcoming game against the Boston Celtics, but his return is a positive sign for the Mavericks as they navigate the remainder of the season.
