What has been the impact of recent incidents on GO Transit services? After a series of disruptions, services are running on time again across all GO Transit lines following a police investigation that caused significant delays.

On March 16, 2026, a deceased person was discovered at Union Station, prompting a police investigation that affected transit operations. This incident was not the only disruption; on March 14, a GO Transit bus rolled into a ditch on Yonge Street in Barrie, carrying 10 individuals, including the driver. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported.

The bus incident led to the closure of Yonge Street for the investigation and recovery of the vehicle, compounding the frustrations of commuters already dealing with service interruptions.

In light of ongoing reliability issues, Nick Mazzotta, a frustrated commuter, created a website to track GO Transit delays. Since its soft launch, the site has attracted around 5,000 unique visitors, with about 500 daily users. Mazzotta noted that rush hour is typically when most problems occur for both GO trains and buses.

Mazzotta expressed his frustrations, stating, “Nothing is more frustrating than getting to the train station, only for them to update that board on the track as you’re waiting, saying that the trains will be another 20 minutes.” He added, “Nothing’s worse than having a sh**** commute in the morning, and you show up at work, and you’re mad, so if I can make people’s days a little better, then that’s cool.”

Despite the recent return to normal operations, concerns about the reliability of GO Transit services remain prevalent among commuters. Typical worst delays for trains can reach up to 30 minutes, while buses can experience delays of up to 45 minutes.

Complaints about disruptions in both the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) and GO Transit services have been increasingly common, highlighting a broader issue within the region’s public transportation system.

As the situation evolves, commuters are left wondering what measures will be taken to improve service reliability and prevent future disruptions. Details remain unconfirmed regarding any long-term solutions that may be implemented by Metrolinx or other authorities.
