Penticton Gears Up for Exciting Community Events

Penticton, B.C. is set to host a variety of community events in the coming months, showcasing local talent and fostering community spirit. Among the highlights is the Glengarry Skating Club’s ‘Family Movie Night’ Ice Parade, scheduled for April 12, 2024, featuring approximately 150 skaters performing on the ice.

In addition to the Ice Parade, the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) Championships will take place from March 7 to 22, 2024, in Penticton. This year, 106 teams are expected to compete, culminating in a total of 195 games played throughout the tournament. “There are always lots of up-and-coming stars that are out there on the male side and on the female side,” said Andy Oakes, highlighting the talent on display.

On March 18, 2024, the Penticton Job Fair will feature over 50 employer booths, providing opportunities for job seekers in the region. This event is particularly significant as the local economy continues to recover and grow, offering residents a chance to connect with potential employers.

The South Okanagan Women in Need Society (SOWINS) is also celebrating a milestone, marking 45 years of service to women facing abuse and violence. Last year, SOWINS distributed 20,000 life-saving supplies to those in need, underscoring the organization’s vital role in the community.

In a separate incident, highway patrol recently removed fifteen commercial trucks from the road in the South Okanagan, following a series of vehicle checks. On February 26, authorities conducted 36 checks on light and heavy commercial vehicles, issuing 10 violation tickets and ordering 16 inspections or repairs. Corporal Michael McLaughlin noted, “Good operators are getting undercut by unsafe drivers who do not spend money on repairs and maintenance,” emphasizing the importance of road safety.

Meanwhile, construction on Eckhardt Avenue is set to begin on March 18, 2024, which may cause traffic delays in the area. Residents are advised to plan their routes accordingly as the city undertakes necessary infrastructure improvements.

As the Penticton Peach Festival approaches, scheduled for August 5 to 9, 2024, with a parade on August 8, community members are eager to participate in the festivities that celebrate the unique culture and spirit of Penticton. Julian Smallbone remarked, “Events like the Peach N’ Beach Parade bring people together and celebrate everything that makes Penticton special,” highlighting the importance of community gatherings.

Details remain unconfirmed regarding any additional events or incidents that may arise as the season progresses. However, the anticipation for these upcoming activities reflects a vibrant and engaged community ready to celebrate and support one another.
