A powerful windstorm has knocked out power to thousands of homes in the eastern Fraser Valley, with over 11,000 customers affected across the region. The outages have been particularly severe in the Agassiz-Harrison area, where more than 1,800 customers are without power due to high winds.

In addition to Agassiz-Harrison, the Seabird Island area has reported outages affecting over 900 customers. Other impacted areas include Lake Errock, where 717 customers are without power, and Harrison Mills, which has seen 827 customers lose electricity. The Sts’sailes area is also facing challenges, with 325 customers affected.

Extent of Outages in Chilliwack

Chilliwack has experienced at least 36 separate outages, impacting more than 8,200 customers. Among these, a significant outage south of Vedder Mountain Road involves 1,140 customers. Additionally, more than 6,000 customers in Chilliwack alone are currently without power.

Wind gusts in the Fraser Valley have reached up to 90 km/h, with forecasts indicating that gusts could potentially reach as high as 100 km/h in certain areas. Many residents have taken to social media to express concerns, reporting that their houses have been shaking due to the violent winds.

BC Hydro has reported multiple outages throughout the affected communities, and crews are working to restore power as quickly as possible. Residents are advised to secure loose objects and continue monitoring alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
