“Our team has been decimated by the flu, so to win by 18 strokes with only four healthy players available is really next level,” said Ross Cash, head coach of the UNC Asheville women’s golf team, after their impressive performance at the Low Country Intercollegiate in Hilton Head, S.C.

The Bulldogs clinched the tournament title, finishing with a total score of 901 (+37). This victory marks UNC Asheville’s first tournament win since 2019, a significant achievement for both the team and Cash, as it is his first win as head coach.

Caroline Patterson led the charge, earning individual medalist honors with a score of 217 (+1). Her performance was pivotal, showcasing her skill and determination amidst the challenges faced by the team.

The Bulldogs shot rounds of 304, 301, and 296, demonstrating consistent improvement throughout the tournament. Notably, they were the only team to shoot a sub-300 round, highlighting their competitive edge.

Lauren Madson also contributed to the team’s success, finishing in a tie for fourth place with a score of 224 (+8). Meanwhile, teammates Breanna Hoese and Jordyn Arts both finished tied for 15th at 230 (+14), rounding out a strong showing for UNC Asheville.

This victory not only boosts the team’s morale but also sets a positive tone for the remainder of the season. The Bulldogs are scheduled to return to action on March 23-24 for the Pinetree Women’s Collegiate, where they will look to build on their recent success.
