This figure includes 236,512 tonnes captured in the third quarter of 2025 alone. However, the project has faced legal challenges, particularly between SaskPower and its contractor, SNC-Lavalin.

Minister Jeremy Harrison announced a provincial process for technology selection in late January, indicating a commitment to advancing energy solutions in the province. However, this has not quelled criticism from environmental advocates. Peter Prebble of the Saskatchewan Environmental Society remarked, “In terms of climate change, Saskatchewan’s taking a real irresponsible position.”

As discussions continue, the future of Bill 612 remains uncertain, with no confirmed date for its return for a second reading or a vote. Additionally, the Rate Review Panel has yet to announce a meeting date regarding SaskPower’s application for the rate increase.
