Mustangs Keep the “Ball” Rolling; Hawks Fly Over Bombers

It was a busy Friday night in the SJHL with 5 games on tap.

In Melfort, the Mustangs welcomed the Kindersley Klippers to the Palace.

The Mustangs opened the scoring 7 minutes in off the stick of Zach Anderson.

Kindersley responded 4 minutes later to end the first at 1-1.

Andrew Thompson scored 8 minutes into the second period to give the Mustangs another lead, but Kindersley responded to make it 2-2.

Then with 45 seconds left in the second, Loch Morrison made it 3-2 for the Mustangs at the end of the frame.

Mustang forward Justin Ball assisted on all 3 goals.

Evan Plotnik was huge in the third, stopping all 13 shots he faced, pickup up the win as the Mustangs moved to 15-4-3-1 on the year.

In Nipawin, the Hawks hosted the Flin Flon Bombers in their only game of the weekend.

Chad McCartney put the first goal on the board for the Hawks 9 minutes in on the powerplay for his 4th goal of the season.

Brandan Arnold was the next Hawk to beat Niklas Anderson, just 7 minutes after McCartney.

Michael Grant broke his 11 game goalless drought to make it 3-0 Hawks, chasing Anderson from the Bomber net.

Reese Jones looked good in the second period, stopping all 15 shots he faced, but then 4 minutes into the second, Grant Baetsen scored for Nipawin to make it 4-0.

Flin Flon would get one back on the powerplay from Ethan Daniels but Michael Grant would respond late in the third to make it 5-1 Hawks, which is how the game would end.

Saturdays games feature Melfort hosting La Ronge, Melville taking on Notre Dame, Battlefords visiting Weyburn, and Estevan hosting Humboldt.
