The City of Melfort held their regular council meeting last night.

One of the topics was the approval of a sign on the edge of town highlighting local events.

Mayor Rick Lang thinks it is a positive add.

“It will help current residents with timelines and what is going on and when,” said Lang. “People are busy and they have enough going on and they are things that interfere with their plans and what their plans could be so this will remind them of some of the stuff that is going on.”

The sign will be seasonal and will stay up throughout the summer months.

Another big topic was the recent Cannabis permit awarded in Melfort.

Zoning for the shop was talked about, and Lang said he thinks it will be doable, considering they want it to be away from schools, and other similar services.

“There is going to be distinct distance that council will want to see from those different services and I think it will be doable because I think we’ll have to restrict it to a commercial site,” Lang explained.

Lang added that the owner of the permit is excited to work with council and is excited to get started.
