A shootout between the RCMP and a pair of suspected taxi thieves has led to charges.

RCMP started to chase a van on Highway 16 near Lashburn late Saturday night after a report of a theft at a gas station.

The van matched the description of a cab that was taken Friday night in Regina, where the cab driver was seriously assaulted.

The van stopped and the occupants started shooting at police, who returned fire, and an RCMP vehicle hit the van and pushed it into the ditch where it got stuck.

Facing several charges are 19 year old Tristan Pinder of Elk Point, Alberta, and 30 year old Verena Petrucka of Melville, and both are in court today.
