It was game one of the Canalta Cup Finals on Saturday night in Nipawin.

The Hawks and Estevan Bruins were playing the first SJHL game since the Humboldt Bronocs Bus Crash.

After a pre-game ceremony honouring the Broncos, and the first responders, hockey got underway.

The Hawks would get goals from Josh McDougall and Jordan Simoneau, and led 2-1 in the second, but after Declan Hobbs misplayed the puck a little over halfway into the frame which led to a Jayden Davis goal for Estevan.

The ruins would get goals from Arthur Miller and Kaelan Holt to lead 3-2 after two periods of play.

The Hawks pressed in the third but couldn’t beat Bo Didur who stopped 41 of 43 shots he faced.

The Bruins would add a pair of empty net goals to close things out.

Game 2 goes back in Nipawin on Sunday.
