The recent snow is a pain for people to remove, and it can also be a danger when precautions aren’t taken.

SaskEnergy is cautioning people removing their snow to be mindful not to bury or damage any natural gas meters or risers.

“We have had calls previous years where people have actually knocked a meter right off its fittings,” said SaskEnergy’s Casey MacLeod.

She said people should also not try to get rid of ice buildup on meters.

“Don’t use an ice pick or shovel to try and bang it off because you can damage the equipment further that way, they can call us and we can send a trained technician,” said MacLeod.

They can call 1-888-7000-GAS to get a technician to come out.

Home and business owners are also reminded to check their natural gas meters and rooftop heating equipment, as warmer weather is on the way.
