Mustangs Respond in Big Way, Beat Bombers

The Melfort Mustangs were in Flin Flon on Saturday closing out a home and home weekend set with the Bombers.

Firidays game in Melfort saw the Bombers beat Melfort  6-3 at the Northern Lights Palace.

Chrystopher Collin lead the way for Flin Flon with 4 points (2G, 2A).

On Saturday, Melfort looked completely different and they opened the scoring at the 6:56 mark of the first period.

Drew Warkentine would get his seventh of the season on a great pass from Tanner Zentner.

They would make it 2-0 less than four minutes later when Reed Gunville scored a shorthanded marker.

Flin Flon would claw back and draw things to within one when Brandson Hein beat Evan Plotnik at the 15:14 mark.

With 9 seconds to play, the Mustangs would get another shorthanded break when Ben Allen would restore the two goal lead.

Flin Flon would come out hard in the second and score a goal to make it 3-2 off the stick of Calvon Boots at the 4:12 mark.

Nate Hooper would tie things up just eight minutes later and the third period would begin tied, just as it was on Friday.

At the 4:05 mark of the third period, Alex Lindstrom went to the box for the Bombers and gave Melfort a 5 minute powerplay.

Loch Morrison would capitalize on the powerplay and give the Mustangs a 4-3 lead.

Just 8 minutes later, Reed Gunville would get a powerplay goal of his own just 8 minutes later to give the Mustangs a 5-3 lead.

Ben Allen would add his second shorthanded goal of the night at the 18:26 mark of the third as he threw the puck into the empty net.

Loch Morrison had 4 points for the Mustangs in the 6-3 win.

Other Saturday winners were; Battleford, Humboldt, Kindersley, and Yorkton.

Melfort is back on the ice on Friday.
