The Tisdale Kinettes will begin a big fundraiser Friday night for their skate park project.
Beat the Deck is back after five years which is a chase the ace style fundraiser according to Kinette member Raelene Franklin.
“You have your 50/50 tickets and a winner gets drawn and then they get to come up and pick a designated card from a deck of cards to win the progressive jackpot part,” Franklin explained.
Franklin is also chair of the skate park board and said they are at about 70 percent of the way to their fundraising goal.
“We are kind of trying to find some fundraisers, and other sponsorship options and grants to fund this, so we thought beat the deck would be a fun way to do this and create some publicity about the skate park too,” said Franklin.
Construction on the skate park is set to begin this spring with completion in the summer.
“It is a little bit different than the one Melfort did, ours is a cement pad and then a steel galvanized equipment that goes on top of it,” Franklin described. “Essentially if we don’t reach our budget we can still get the cement pad and do it in phases but we’re really hoping to get to our budget and complete it all this summer,”
Beat the deck takes place every Friday night at the Tisdale hotel from 5:30-7pm with the first draw this Friday evening and running until June 1st.
A community meeting will be held on January 30th with representatives from Canadian Ramp Company.
The public and especially youth who will be utilizing the skate park, are asked to bring their ideas and input as they come up with design concepts.
