Heat restored to thousands in Melfort area after natural gas outage

SaskEnergy worked over two days to ensure that heat was restored to 4,500 customers in the Melfort area who were without service after the crown corporations biggest outage in the province.

A high pressure transmission line broke on Wednesday morning between Birch Hills and Weldon causing the natural gas outage in Melfort, St. Brieux and Kinistino.

Technicians were going door-to-door turning on furnaces and appliances once another line was able to supply service.

Temperatures into the minus 30`s on Thursday made it essential to have heat restored as quickly as possible.

All customers have had their heat restored as of Thursday night by 10pm.

The ruptured line has been repaired and an investigation into the cause of will be conducted.
