The long awaited Wellness Center in Melfort had their grand opening and ribbon cutting celebration Tuesday night.
The ribbon cutting was followed by public tours of the facility that was a few years in the making.
Mayor Rick Lang said the centre is of great benefit to the entire region.
“We had almost 100% participation from surrounding municipalities because they recognized the importance of this facility, and they recognized that it wasn’t just for Melfort, it was for Melfort and the surrounding area,” explained Lang. “They contributed financially to make this happen and that is what sealed the deal as far as I’m concerned, it made something possible that wasn’t possible before.”
Lang said to see the completed building that centralizes all of the doctors under one roof was phenomenal to see.
John Burton, Partner of Avatex Companies talked about the planning that went into the building.
“When we talked to the doctors, and the city, and Kelsey Trail, it was obvious that there was going to be good support for the project and so it made sense for us to roll up our sleeves and see what we could create.”
The first 6 months was spent planning and working out agreements and then construction was about 10 months for the company.
Burton said Avatex first came to Melfort 10 years ago when they developed the Stonegate Shopping Centre and then helping out with the Historic Post Office building.
