It was not a fun night for goalies last night at the Elgar Petersen Arena in Humboldt.
The Nipawin Hawks and Humboldt Broncos put up a combined 12 goals in a Hawks 7-5 win.
The Hawks came out flying, scoring a powerplay goal courtesy of Logan Casavant.
Not long after, Austin Mikesch made it 2-0, which is how it stood after 1 period.
It took a while to get our first goal of the second, but 10 minutes in, Josh McDougalls shot from the point made it 3-0 Hawks on the powerplay.
The Broncos responded soon after, with 2 goals, 20 seconds apart off the sticks of Blake Berschiminsky, and Logan Hunter to make it 3-2 after 2 periods of play.
The third period opened with a Jordan Bogress goal to tie the game for Humboldt just 3 minutes into the third.
The Nipawin Hawks responded with 3 straight goals of their own, all off the stick of Brandan Arnold who was playing his first game of the season after returning from the WHL.
It was 6-3 for the Hawks, but not for long as the Broncos got 2 goals, 20 seconds apart from Logan Schatz, and Conner Lukan to make it 6-5.
Brett Harasymuk would ice it for the hawks with just over 2 minutes to play as the Hawks took it 7-5.
Josh McDougall was the big contributor with a goal and 4 assists on the night.
Other winners in the SJHL were; Estevan, Flin Flon, and Melville.
Saturday’s games feature Nipawin and Humboldt at the Cage, Melfort visiting Weyburn, and Kindersley taking on Flin Flon.
