Toxic water is to blame for the death of 200 cattle in a pasture near Chaplin.

Saskatchewan’s chief veterinary officer Dr. Betty Althouse says water samples taken from the pasture’s dugout showed a sulphate concentration over 3 times the fatal level.

The animals were found last Friday on Crown land that was being leased by about three dozen cattle owners.
