The Wellness Centre site in Melfort has been busy, just a month after ground was broken for the new facility.
Community Development Manager Brent Lutz says the spring weather has been kind to work crews so far.
“The construction firm is on site, and they’ve been clearing the site, and also installing piles” says Lutz.
“That process will probably go on for about a week more here, and then they will begin removing some more material off the site before they start erecting the steel for the building.”
The facility should be ready for move-in later this year.
“The plan right now is to be in the building by fall” says Lutz.
“At present, we’re on track for that timeline, and so barring weather problems over the construction period here, we hope to have the new building ready for occupancy in the late fall.”
Lutz believes having the offices attached to the hospital will be very convenient.
“Residents and patients will be able to appreciate the fact that they’ll be able to get all their health services in one location, see all the doctors in one location, be able to visit their physician in his private office, and if need be go over to the hospital for any diagnostic tests that they may require” Lutz says.
“It’s also very convenient for the doctors as they practice in their private practice, and they also see patients at the hospital and respond to emergencies there” Lutz explains.
“Being on-site will make much more efficient use of their time, and the patients should notice that when seeing their doctor in the office.”
